A wonderful friend to many in the community offered space for me to stay on his large property to help clear forest underbrush in the late summer of 2018. I’d just completed a temporary position as hop field worker at the local famous brewery’s experimental hop fields, a bucket-list worthy ‘hard work’ job. After getting in great shape in that position, I jumped at the chance to help my friend, stay in shape and help clear land and assist in adding to his hillside garden. It also meant I had the chance to live in the foothills again, and in a forested setting, which is hard to beat.
It was an honor to help a friend with such important work on his property. The work I did that fall, slowed the fire just enough for fire crews to arrive and save the home at the last moment. During my short time living and working there, I captured these images of the wonderful flowers and colors on display that fateful fall. Concerned of the fire danger, I traveled to Chico the night before the fire, which began my displacement during the Camp Fire. But, oh, OH, what a wonderful fall that was! Thanks Tim!
